Building work contractors
Building work supervisor registrations — General building classes
Any building work
Any commercial, residential and other building work, including civil building work and all NCC/BCA building classes 1–10 without restriction.
Additions
Expanding the floor area below, at the same level and/or above an existing building, or enclosing other areas so external dimensions/cubic content increase. All building classes, no height limit.
Additions and alterations
Additions plus structural or non-structural alterations to an existing building. May include a residential balcony. No height or building-class restriction.
Alterations
Structural or non-structural alterations to an existing building, excluding additions. May include an alteration involving a residential balcony. No height or class restriction.
Alterations & renovations
Structural or non-structural alterations to existing buildings (excluding additions), and non-structural restoration/refurbishment/makeovers including commercial fit-outs and bathroom renovations.
Renovations (non-structural)
Non-structural restoration, refurbishment or makeovers of all building classes that do not alter room use or remove walls, doors or windows. Structural renovations fall under Alterations.
Transportable building construction and installation
Construction of transportable buildings, including site levelling, stumps, verandahs/decks and organising plumbing/electrical connections.

Residential building work restricted to NCC Classes 1 and 10, including construction, alteration, additions and renovation within that limit.
Residential building work limited to NCC Class 1 & 10 — up to 3 storeys

Specified trade conditions
Air conditioning installation
Install fixed appliances/systems that circulate air to heat and/or cool building spaces, including split systems, ventilation, ducting, dampers and return-air systems. Excludes cool rooms.
Board fixing & flushing and installation of non-structural wall frames
Fix and flush plasterboard and other lining sheets, cornices, suspended ceilings and fire walls. Includes non-structural wall frames and insulation in walls and ceilings.
Bricklaying & block laying
Lay manufactured bricks or blocks without height or building-class restriction, including undersetting. Does not include stonemasonry.
Stonemasonry
Construct and underset walls using natural stone in place of bricks/blocks; includes cast/synthetic/reconstructed stone, cutting, dressing, laying, jointing and pointing.
Cabinet making
On-site fabrication and/or installation of built-in furniture such as kitchens, linen presses and laundry cupboards, including all forms of benchtops.
Carpentry, light steel framing and joinery
First-fix and second-fix structural carpentry, light steel framing, and joinery installation including built-in furniture, stairs, windows and doors. No height or class limitation.
General concrete construction
Any concrete work without limitation, including site preparation, trenching, damp-proof membrane, formwork, reinforcement, placing and finishing for residential, commercial and civil construction.
Concreting & steel fixing
Any concrete and steel-fixing work without limitation, including reinforcement installation and placing/finishing concrete construction.
Earthworks construction
All forms of earthworks without restriction, including site preparation, excavation and trenching for residential/commercial building work and civil construction.
Fencing
All forms of fencing and gates including plinth installation. Excludes post-and-wire fencing.
Insulation
Install insulation in walls and ceilings of all building classes.
Painting and decorating
Internal/external surface preparation and painting, including painting wall/floor tiles, baths and laminates, without building-class restriction. Excludes roof restoration other than painting.
Paving
All forms of paving: segmental, concrete path/floor paving, bitumen/asphalt and spray seal, pattern/spray-on paving, including site preparation, reinforcement and formwork.
Physical termite barrier installation
Install physical termite-management barriers that deter termite passage by material characteristics and do not rely on insecticidal or repellent chemicals. Chemical termite systems are outside this condition.
Pergolas, verandahs & carports
Install pergolas (including free-standing gazebos), verandahs and carports using steel or timber.
Plumbing
Requires unrestricted registered plumber (independent worker) status under the Plumbers, Gas Fitters and Electricians Act 1995. The endorsement is limited to the plumbing worker registration held.
Gas fitting
Requires registered gas-fitter status under the Plumbers, Gas Fitters and Electricians Act 1995. The endorsement is limited to the gas-fitting worker registration held.
Electrical
Requires registered electrician status under the Plumbers, Gas Fitters and Electricians Act 1995. The endorsement is limited to the electrical worker registration held.
Roof restoration
Repair gutters, fascias, tile battens, purlins and downpipes; re-bed/repoint capping tiles; replace cracked/broken tiles; and prepare/paint metal and tiled roofs, without restriction by building class.
Roof plumbing
Install and repair metal roof sheeting/wall cladding, gutters, downpipes and sarking; restore metal roofs; install skylights and roof ventilators on metal roofs; and replace roof tiles with metal roof sheeting where within the condition.
Roof tiling
Install pressed or moulded concrete, terracotta, pressed-metal tiles or slate used as the weatherproof roof covering.
Solid plastering
Internal and external plastering using site-mixed or premixed compounds, including quoins/bands, white-set finish, texture coating, render coating and mortar coating.
Structural steel erection
Install heavy steel framework and light steel framing, including on-site fabrication and installation of steel framework in commercial structures.
Swimming pool construction
Construct concrete pools or install prefabricated/fibreglass/spa-type or precast-concrete pools, including earthworks, pool plumbing, concrete finishing, pool-area fencing/gates, coping/paving/tiling and pool plant. Includes above-ground pools.
Wall & floor tiling
Waterproof wet areas, place screed and tile walls/floors in bathrooms, WCs, laundries, kitchens, living areas, verandahs and balconies. Does not authorise replacement of wall linings/substrate.
Construction waterproofing
All forms of waterproofing for wet areas, balconies, concrete roofs/concourses, retaining walls and similar work, including commercial caulking and construction joints in roadways.
Glazing excluding pool fencing and balustrades
Install glass, acrylic or similar material into prepared openings in windows, door panels, partitions, shower screens and mirrors within the applicable Australian Standard. Does not include pool fencing or balustrades.
