General building work
Renovation and landscaping work
Kitchen, bathroom and laundry renovation work
Installation, refurbishment, restoration and on-site repairs of kitchens, bathrooms or laundries (excludes load-bearing structure).
Structural landscaping work
External landscape features and non-habitable structures under a residential building work contract.
Trade work categories
Bricklaying work
Erecting masonry structures from individual bricks or blocks, including fences, retaining walls and associated flashing/concreting.
Carpentry work
Cutting and placing timber/composites to erect framing or fix components such as stairs, windows, doors and floors.
Decorating work
Installation of painted or applied decorations such as murals, frescos and wallpaper.
Dry plastering work
Internal gypsum plasterboard, fibrous plaster, fibre-cement sheeting, cornices and non-structural ceilings.
Excavating work
Removing earth or rock to form holes or trenches for structural supports, walls, floors or landscaping.
Fencing work
Putting up fences and gates within or on residential property boundary lines.
General concreting work
Concrete placement, formwork, reinforcement, finishes, repair, resurfacing and concrete retaining walls.
Glazing work
Installing glass, acrylic or similar material in windows, doors, screens, fences, balustrades and partitions.
Joinery work
Making and installing non-structural timber, composite or metal components including doors, windows and stairs.
Metal fabrication work
Preparation, making and erection of metal components including structural steel, handrails, fences and balustrades.
Minor maintenance and cleaning work
Non-structural maintenance, minor repairs or cleaning of existing works — requires at least one endorsement.
Minor trade work
New, repair or replacement residential building work not readily assigned to a specific trade — requires at least one minor-trade endorsement.
Painting work
Applying clear, resin-based or pigmented coatings for decorative or protective purposes, including texture coatings.
Roof plumbing work
Fixing, installing, renovating, altering, repairing and maintaining guttering, downpipes, roof flashing and authorised roof coverings.
Roof slating work
Fixing roof slates or imitation slate to exterior roof/fascia surfaces, including shingles, shakes and associated flashing.
Roof tiling work
Fixing concrete, clay or metal roof tiles to exterior roof and fascia surfaces, including associated flashing and sarking.
Stonemasonry work
Construction using natural or artificial stone laid unit by unit in mortar, including walls, veneer, staircases and flagging.
Swimming pool repairs and servicing work
Fixing or maintaining parts of an existing swimming pool, including pool plumbing, filters, heating, painting and cleaning.
Underpinning and piering work
Constructing new support under existing walls, columns or footings, and construction of supporting columns/posts.
Wall and floor tiling work
Attaching tiles to internal or external surfaces, including cork, linoleum, rubber, thermoplastic, mosaics and wet-area waterproofing.
Waterproofing work
Protective treatment of a home to prevent water or moisture ingress, and treatment of wet areas to prevent water escape.
Wet plastering work
Applying wet plaster/render mixtures to internal or external walls and ceilings, including solid plastering over brick, stone, concrete, sheeting or board.
Building practitioner registrations (Design and Building Practitioners scheme)
Building practitioner - general
Building practitioner who does building work under a contract/arrangement or is the principal contractor for class 2, certain class 3 or 9c work.
Building practitioner - general (low rise)
Principal/general building practitioner within the low-rise registration class (up to 2,000m², excluding Type A or B construction).
Building practitioner - general (medium rise)
Principal/general building practitioner within the medium-rise registration class (up to 3 storeys, or 4 where ground/first storey is a class 7a carpark).
Building practitioner - body corporate nominee
Individual who prepares documents and makes declarations on behalf of a registered body corporate for class 2, certain class 3 or 9c work.
Building practitioner - body corporate nominee (low rise)
Body corporate nominee within the low-rise registration class (up to 2,000m², excluding Type A or B construction).
Building practitioner - body corporate nominee (medium rise)
Body corporate nominee within the medium-rise registration class.
